January 21 Merger Update

Christ United Methodist Church and First Congregational United Church of Christ Merger Update- What’s Next?

January 21, 2026 Update -The language submitted to the UMC District Superintendent by our Exploration Committee subcommittee has been accepted. The lengthy process of writing the bylaws for our federating churches has resulted in a document that will be provided to our joint Council for approval at the February Council meeting.

The Christ United Methodist congregation has called a Charge Conference for February 5 at 7 PM for the purpose of voting as a congregation on federating. The meeting is chaired by Rev. Karen McRae, UMC District Superintendent. FCUCC members and friends are invited to attend but will not vote. CUMC members/friends will have access to the proposed bylaws for examination prior to the Charge Conference. FCUCC members will, likewise, have access to the proposed bylaws prior to meeting as a congregation to vote on federating.

At the January Council meeting, your Council appointed a subcommittee to work on a process for naming our new church. That group will be developing a process and seeking input from both congregations as we work toward naming our federating church. Watch the Good News and this website for updates and further information regarding the naming process.

Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued commitment to our congregation. We are grateful to each of you and look forward to moving ahead together in faith to the day we celebrate our new name as a unified church.  With gratitude and hope, The Church Council
