SUMMARY:Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
DESCRIPTION:At least once a year\, Christians are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (see John 17.21). Hearts are touched and Christians come together to pray for their unity. Congregations and parishes all over the world exchange preachers or arrange special ecumenical celebrations and prayer services. The event that touches off this special experience is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. \nWHEN: Traditionally the week of prayer is celebrated between 18-25 January\, between the feasts of St Peter and St Paul. In the southern hemisphere\, where January is a vacation time\, churches often find other days to celebrate it\, for example around Pentecost\, which is also a symbolic date for unity.

DESCRIPTION:Martin Luther King Jr. Day (officially Birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.\,[1] and often referred to shorthand as MLK Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed on the third Monday of January each year. King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement\, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law and civil society. The movement led to several groundbreaking legislative reforms in the United States. \nBorn in 1929\, Martin Luther King Jr.’s actual birthday is January 15 (which in 1929 fell on a Tuesday). The earliest Monday for this holiday is January 15 and the latest is January 21. The Monday observance is similar for those federal holidays which fall under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. \nThe campaign for a federal holiday in King’s honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983\, and it was first observed three years later on January 20\, 1986. At first\, some states resisted observing the holiday as such\, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. Official observance in each state’s law as well as federal law occurred in 2000. \n

DESCRIPTION:14th Annual Four Chaplains Memorial Service\nSunday\, February 1\, 2026 at 2:00 P.M.\nChurch Sanctuary (doors open at 1:15 P.M.) \nThis non-denominational service celebrates the true story of four World War II U.S. Army Chaplains. Sponsored by American Legion Post 341\, this service honors those men who joined together despite their different beliefs. In February of 1943\, the U.S.A.T Dorchester sunk in the cold Atlantic. Lt. George Fox\, Lt. Alexander Goode\, Lt. John Washington\, and Lt. Clark Polling\, brought hope in despair and light in darkness. Quickly and quietly\, they spread out among the soldiers\, trying to calm the frightened\, tend the wounded\, and guide the disoriented toward safety. When the ship went down\, the four chaplains\, who had given their life jackets to others\, linked arms offered prayers. Of the 902 men aboard the U.S.A.T Dorchester\, only 230 survived. Guest Chaplains will include Montana Air National Guard\, the Jewish Community\, and 341st Wing at Malmstrom Airforce Base.
