No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

Welcome to our Web site.  Thank you for your interest in the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Great Falls.  Please feel free to explore our site and learn more about our church.

We are a church with a rich heritage.  Locally we were established in 1890 shortly after the founding of Great Falls.  As an article in the Great Falls Tribune paid generous tribute to our fledgling group, “the Congregationalists are noted not only as a moral, God fearing people, but also as an intellectual people…(their) influences will emanate which will purify the morals and inspire the intellectual forces of our beautiful city.”  And so we have “inspired…our beautiful city” for the past one and one-quarter century.  God is good!

As a denomination we are a church of many firsts.  From our Pilgrim forbears, the Congregationalists were influential in the founding of our nation, including the right of religious liberty.  From our free church tradition, we guarantee the freedom of our individual members in matters of belief.  From our reformed tradition, we seek to be a church that is growing and open to the future.  Along the way we were the first American denomination to ordain an African American, Lemuel Hayes in 1785, the first Protestant church to ordain a woman, Antoinette Brown in 1853, and the first denomination to ordain an openly gay person, Bill Johnson in 1972.   God is good all the time!

We take the Bible seriously and apply it to our time and place.  We exercise a progressive Christian theology as we seek to grow in the faith.  As the United Church of Christ (UCC) we call ourselves the “God is still speaking” church and hope to be obedient listeners as we discern God’s will for us.  As we have historically, we strive to make a difference in our community and through our denomination in the world.  Life is a sacred journey.  We invite you to join us and make it a good one.   All the time God is good!

We’d love to see you. We are located at 2900 9th Ave. South. We are right behind the Dairy Queen on 10th Avenue South. Or give us a call at 406-453-4316.  Our office hours are M-F, 9 AM – 3 PM.
